DON’T MISS AN EXTRAORDINARY CONFERENCE IN BEAUTIFUL SCOTLAND

AIMING TO HELP PEOPLE:

Share and LEARN ABOUT HOW TO ‘DESIGN TO THRIVE’

&

LAY SAFE AND CLEAN FOUNDATIONS FOR A VERY DIFFERENT FUTURE

Check out the Forums and choose which best your paper will fit into - then go to the Submissions drop down to upload your abstract

Please do join us for the 33rd PLEA Conference in historic Edinburgh on the 2nd - the 5th July 2017 aimed at taking forward the thinking and agendas on how to achieve a Sustainable, Low Carbon, Passive, Low Energy and Resilient Built Environment.

Hosted by the Schools of Architecture and Architectural Engineering in Scotland with Edinburgh City Council and the Scottish Government, the Conference starts with a party in Edinburgh Castle hosted by Historic Environment Scotland.  The venues are all from the Scottish \\\Enlightenment\\\ period (late 18th Century) but the ideas in the conference will all be forward facing: How can we - and must we - Design to Thrive and lay Foundations for a Better Future in our difficult and rapidly changing times?

A stellar assembly of some of the brightest thinkers and doers will join us to share their, and our, experiences and research on ways forward and to debate the relative merits and pitfalls of alternative futures and solutions.

We have 34 Forums addressing timely and pressing issues ranging from environmental conservation to place making, from refurbishment and historic preservation to education, from low carbon design and energy efficiency to ventilation, and from windows and construction details to infrastructure. Check out the Forums to see where your own work best fits and then put in an abstract in the submissions section.  You can submit one or more abstracts and then choose, on getting our feedback, which will be your lead paper for presentation at the conference.

Feel free to look also at the great Scottish universities WHO are hosting this event, each with their own special identity, research and teaching strengths, international outlook, and with great interest and experience in academic collaboration and partnerships.  Google and contact your chosen Forum Leader if you have any queries on the forum content.  This will be \\\our\\\ conference to shape and contribute to. We are always happy to discuss ideas to make it even more interesting and fruitful in terms of the Legacy we can leave behind.

Please submit your own abstract now.  Also do please pass this invitation onto anyone you think may be interested in sending in an abstract on our particular Forum themes.  There are opportunities also to book a space for a group meeting space on the morning of the 3rd July or the 5th if you would like to use PLEA as a project meeting venue too.

Registration will open in November 2016 and we look forward to welcoming you then to one of the most beautiful cities and countries in the world.

I now believe that individually we can make a local difference but together we are, and increasingly will be, a force to be reckoned with.  Let our PLEA community work together to make this happen.

Best wishes,

Sue Roaf
